Prabhat Kumar College, Contai, established on 15th July, 1926 with bounteous donation from the Late Biswambhar Dinda, in memory of his loving son, Late Prabhat Kumar Dinda, is the oldest College of Purba Medinipur District. Initially it functioned as an Arts College under the University of Calcutta with only 39 students. in 1985 it got affiliated to Vidyasagar University. The College now has developed into a glorious seat of higher learning catering to over 7000 Students enrolled in 23 UG, PG Departments in Arts, Science, Commerce and Teachers' Training Programme.
Library: A library is a house of aspiration; it is a place where we all, whatever our situation is, can feed our ideas to ultimately lead ourselves to the achievement. As a matter of fact, every student’s alma matter is books, a library where s/he can spend the rest of his/her life reading, simply satisfying his/her curiosity. It is a kind of paradise to the students because reading can take them to places they have never been before.
Computer Facilities: Without exaggeration it can be affirmed that life in the post-modern world would have remained incomplete without computer and its application in achieving the goals of the teacher and the taught by providing them with an effective infrastructure. Two separate computer laboratories have been developed in the college—one in the main building for the Under-Graduate Students, and the other in the Post-Graduate Building for the Post-Graduate Students. Above mentioned Computer Labs with 40 nodes abundantly help the students for web browsing and accessing on-line resources for learning. The wi-fi enabled campus has rendered the students as well the teachers net savvy. The smart/ virtual classroom has sublimated the teaching learning process more accessible.
Gymnasium: A gymnasium with modern fitness equipments has been developed at the ground floor of N. C. Roy Building with the financial assistance under RUSA scheme. It comprises of such fitness tools as motorized and manual treadmills, abdominal exerciser, abdominal machine, twister exerciser, AB Crunch machine, Health care equipments, fitness bike, cross trainer, leg press machine, upright bike, Health scale, bicep curl, etc. teachers as well as the students of the college are allowed to avail the facilities of the gym. The teachers of the Physical Education Department act as the trainer/s of the gym.
Yoga Center: None can deny that Yogic meditation plays a crucial function in the general healing process. The Yoga centre of the college, developed with the financial assistance under RUSA scheme, provides many inimitable facilities for teachers and students as well as those who are in quest for a mild detoxification. We have recognized the holistic effects of practicing yoga and made it as a part of our daily routine to have a retreat for calming, detoxifying and revitalizing our overworked body, mind and spirit.
Hostel Facility
Hostel Facilities Available: The College has well-equipped Girls’ and Boys’ Hostels. In February, 2014, a new four-storied Girls’ Hostel with UGC assistance has been inaugurated. The Boys’ hostel has been shifted to a more spacious building with increased accommodation and better amenities.
Placement Service Available: The Career Counseling and Placement Cell of the college is meant for providing guidance to the students to develop their overall personalities and help them meet challenges in their life. The cell provides a good and conducive setting to the students so that they can identify what and how they can opt for to get themselves marketable in future.
