The institute was formally inaugurated by Smt. Kumari Selja Honorable union minister for tourism / GOI on 7/12/09 in the presence of HCM Sikkim.Indian Himalayan Centre for Adventure & Ecotourism (IHCAE), Chemchey is ideally located in the pristine mountains of the Central Himalaya on the lap of the world's third highest peak, the majestic Mt. Khangchendzonga. IHCAE is the first institute of its kind in India to have achieved the remarkable feat of proudly unfurling the Institute flag on the "On the TOP of World" Mount Everest not once, not twice but thrice. And all this within four years of its inception (i.e. 7th Nov 2009).

Eligibility
Eligibility for all courses is based on meeting the age and physical, fitness Criteria as given in training programme calendar. For Advance Mountaineering Course is for trainees graded 'A' only. A trainee should be minimum Class Xth pass from a recognized University as a regular student.
 
Duration
30 Days
 
Admission Procedure
The application complete in all respect should be submitted 30 days prior to the commencement of course applied for along with proof of date of Birth, Medical Certificate and course fees. Vacancies to private candidates are allotted on "First come first serve basis". Incomplete application will not be accepted.

Eligibility
Only those trainees who have been graded 'A' in the Advance Mountaineering Course from any of the following institutes - NIM, HMI Darjeeling, JIM Pehalgam, ITBP training Auli, MAS Manali and SGMI, Gangtok are eligible for this course.

Other Details
The course covers Search & Rescue operations in the Himalayas with particular reference to Rescue techniques on rock, snow and ice & wilderness environments. First-aid, Mountain Navigation, Radio Telephony, Liaison with various organizations and their involvement during Rescue operations, Audio and Visual communication signals and evacuation methods including use of helicopters.
