The Adoni Arts and Science College is not only the second oldest college in Kurnool District, it is the sweet dream of a drought prone, backward region, where people have known only privation but no privilege. It is not built by any Nawaab or Maha Rajah, but by the common people, by the dint of their hard work.The sweat of their brow underwent a glorious transformation into academic ambrosia. A Service Organization like the Rotary Club has joined hands with them and sponsored the college. All the more remarkable is the fact that all this happened forty five years ago. It has no parallel anywhere else. The college was founded with the noble idea of providing quality higher education to all the students of this rural and backward area by.“The Adoni College and Educational Society” sponsored by The Rotary Club of Adoni in the year 1962.It is the second oldest college in Kurnool District. The college, affiliated to Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati, was inaugurated in a temporary building, by the then Vice Chancellor Sri S. Govindarajulu Naidu on 27th June, 1962.The college started with P.U.C. and B.A. Degree courses. It began with the strength of 175 students. It has grown from strength to strength to become one of the premier prestigious institutions of higher education in Kurnool District. B.Com. and B.Sc. courses were started during the years 1964-65 and 1965-66 respectively. A new and spacious premises for the college was necessitated due to the increase in student strength. The farmers bringing their produce to the market yard came forward to contribute their mite and the merchant community of the market yard also agreed to join them with their contributions.0.5% of the daily gross revenue of the Market Yard was collected for the building construction fund through a system called “Laaga”.
Library: The Adoni Arts and Science College Library was established along with the college in 1962. Sri.Y.V.Subrahmanyam was the first Librarian.
To meet the increasing demand for books and to cater to the academic need of the under graduate students and the staff, a new Library block was constructed with the aid of the U.G.C in 1977.The main objective of the Library is to help the students and the staff to enrich their knowledge by providing the latest books. Every year the books recommended by the various departments are added, besides those recommended by the Library Committee. Latest books and journals are added to the treasure of the library which provides an opportunity to both the teacher and the taught to keep abreast with the latest trends. The open access system has increased the utility of the library to the optimum level.The Library began with a collection of 1046 books. The number increased by leaps and bounds thereafter. At present the number of books on the racks is.The amount accrued in the Library fee fund and the U.G.C. Grants are utilized for buying books for the library. Besides, gratis is also accepted. All the books that come to Library by either gratis or otherwise are entered in the accession register.
Laboratories: The institution has well equipped and well furnished laboratories in various departments. There are 16 laboratories for the UG and PG students to train students in their respective disciplines.Nine science labs vise, Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Statics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Electronics and Bio technology labs received financial assistance from UGC under BSR(Phase-1) grants for their Upgradation. The grant was successfully utilized and all science departments are now equipped to undertake all experiments prescribed in undergraduate science syllabus besides undertaking minor research work. The college also has an English language lab and a commerce lab. The English lab has 20 client systems connected to one server. In which language learning software designed by “LE-LOGICEL” is installed. Some selected students undergo training in proficiency in English. The commerce lab has about 40 systems connected by LAN. Multi user Tally is installed in all the computers and all the commerce students undergo training in learning Tally.
Playground: The college is proud of its sprawling 18-acre playground. Many inter-collegiate sports and games were also conducted in the college playground. Regular practice of various sports and games are a constant feature here. N.C.C. Cadets also use the college ground for parade and drill practice . N.C.C. Day is also celebrated in the college grounds. Flag hoisting and ceremonial parades are held on the occasion of Independence Day and Republic Day celebrations. The college playground is also used as the Helipad when the state and the Union dignitaries like the Chief Minister, Prime Minister and others visit Adoni. Many mammoth public meetings were held in the grounds.
Botanical Garden: The botanical garden in the campus was established with the financial assistance of UGC-CPE grants. In Botanical garden, rare medicinal plants are being grown. It is maintained by the Department of Botany. The students visit the garden for performing their laboratory works.
Hostel Facility
Hostel Facilities Available: Sepreate Hostel Facility is Available for Both Boys and Girls.Alimchand Topandas Hostel for boys was constructed in 1969. It has 30 rooms and provides accommodation to about 70 students.Women’s Hostel : A well furnished hostel was constructed with the financial assistance of UGC it has 60 rooms. There are about 60 inmates in the hostel at present. It was inaugurated by Sri Kotla Surya Prakash Reddy Honourable Minister of state for Railways in March 2013.

Placement Service Available: The placement cell of the college has been instrumental in not only training the students in employability skills but also arranging Placement Drives by reputed MNCs like Tech Mahindra, L&T, Dr. Reddy Labs….etc. Mr. N. Newton Raj, Lecturer in English, is the Placement Officer of the college.
