The Department had a modest beginning comprising a group of five students in the year 1972. The strategic planning of two great visionaries, Dr. T.L. Shantha and Dr. M.B. Nagaveni, enabled the Department to evolve into a well-established branch of the college state-of-the-art facilities, thus, gaining applauds and appreciations from Bangalore University. Today, the Department has a student strength of over 520. This is a result of the diverse approaches employed by dedicated faculty members towards teaching, mentoring and guiding the students to strike a path of their own.
Zoology, though alphabetically last, encompasses subdivisions ranging from A-Z, covering all aspects of extinct, extant and enigmatic forms of life. It is an exciting and vital stream of basic science having enormous scope of investigation of various mysteries of life in the Universe, thereby contributing to the expansion of knowledge in applied research by using latest scientific technologies.
