IIT Bombay, set up by an Act of Parliament, was established in 1958, at Powai, a northern suburb of Mumbai. Today the Institute is recognised as one of the centres of academic excellence in the country. IIT Bombay has a total of 14 academic departments, six centres, one school, and three interdisciplinary programmes. Hostel Facility
It is a fully residential institute, with all its students staying on campus. The students are accommodated in 14 hostels with in-house dining and excellent amenities for sports and other recreational facilities.
