Pass in (10+2) or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English as separate subjects with PCM average of not less than 60%

The B.Sc (Nautical Science) degree will be awarded by the University on the successful completion of Three years duration. After 3 years, the cadets will be joining as the Trainee Cadet Officers on board the ship. They will have to obtain 12 months sea experience. On completion of 12 months sea experience, they will be promoted directly as SECOND OFFICER without any further examinations. With further sea service & exams, they will be promoted to Chief Officer and then becoming Captain of the ship.

Minimum 10+2 with 60% marks in PCM aggregate or 50% marks in the final year of B.Sc. with physics in any of the years of B.Sc. or B.E. / B.Tech. degree and 50% marks in English either at 10th or 12th or at graduation level.

The one Year DNS Course is a course leading to B.Sc., Nautical Science after 18 months of sea service and also leading to 2nd Mate Foreign going Ceritificate of competency awarded by the Ministry of Shipping, Government of India, enabling the cadets to become Navigating officers on board Merchant Naval Ships anywhere in the world. The one year Diploma in Nautical Science Course is strictly residential.

Other Details
On successful completion of this course, the candidates will be eligible to join in Indian/Foreign Shipping companies as a Deck/Engine crew. With further sea service, they would be promoted as Motorman/Oil man, Fitter, Deck serang, Able-Bodied Seamen, Bosun. They can also be promoted to officer level with certain service and qualification requirements on passing the examinations conducted by DGS.

On completion of the course, one becomes eligible to take up a career at sea as a junior / trainee engineer. A minimum of 8 months of sea service is then required to be put in on board merchant vessels on completion of which the junior / trainee engineers become eligible to write Class IV Part ‘B’ examination (Class IV Part ‘A’ examination, being exempted on the strength of the Degree awarded). Thereafter a Class IV Certificate of Competency is awarded by the Mercantile Marine Department, Government of India. Subsequently, they become full fledged Engineer officers of Merchant Marine and are free to take up lucrative careers within the Shipping industry world-wide.

The Certificate of Higher Education in Nautical Science (including preparation for STCW OOW Certificate) provides a pathway to academic qualification and with further study in the UK, is a Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA) approved route to a Merchant Navy Deck Officer of the Watch (OOW) Certificate. The CertHE is awarded by Liverpool John Moores University (UK) who provides assessments and monitor quality at SAMET.
