Government Arts College, Nandanam, Chennai:600 035, , had originated in the middle of the 18th century as a School, called Madrasa, and in 1901, it was upgraded into a College with the objective of accommodating Muslim students, which continued till it acquired its present status in 1948. Ever since, equal opportunity came to be extended to students of all communities, irrespective of religious denomination.At its present location, it is well situated to serve the needs of the pupils settled in the central regions of the Metropolis. Though it is situated in Chennai, it draws students from the neighboring districts. A distinct character of the Institution is that it caters to the needs of the lower rungs of the society.
Library: General Library in our college functions as the abode of knowledge and wisdom for all students and faculty members. We have a separate building with ground and first floor. The ground floor serves the purpose of General Library whereas the first floor serves the purpose of Digital library. We have nearly 25,000 books on varied subjects related to different departments, which cater to the needs of ardent readers. All the books including in department library are maintained through the accession register in General Library. We are Providing 125 journals back volumes available both in General and Department Libraries for students and staff for research purposes.
Placement Service Available: Placement and Career Guidance cell is established to support the students of both UG and PG to get placed in renowned companies. Placement and Career Guidance cell coordinates with companies in order to get them for at camplacement drives at campus itself. It also conducts awareness sessions for the students who should know before they appear for the placement drives.
