Indian Economic/Statistical Services Exam is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission to recruit Grade IV officers for the Indian Statistical Service (ISS) and Indian Economic Service (IES).

Eligibility

Nationality
A candidate must be either :-

(a) a citizen of India; or
(b) a subject of Nepal; or
(c) a subject of Bhutan; or
(d) a Tibetan refugee who came over to India, before the 1st January, 1962, with the intention of permanently settling in India; or
(e) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire and Ethiopia or Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India : Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (b), (c), (d) & (e) above shall be person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India. A candidate in whose case a certificate of eligibility is necessary may be admitted to the examination but the offer of appointment may be given only after the necessary eligibility certificate has been issued to him/her by the Government of India.

Age Limits :

(a) A candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 30 years on 1st August, 2026 i.e he/she must have been born not earlier than 2nd August, 1995 and not later than 1st August, 2005.

(b) The upper age-limit prescribed above will be relaxable as follows

Educational Qualification:

  1. A candidate for the Indian Economic Service must have obtained a Post-Graduate Degree in Economics/Applied Economics/Business Economics/Econometrics from a University incorporated by of an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or other Educational Institutes established by an Act Parliament or declared to be deemed as University under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956 or a Foreign University approved by the Central Government from time to time.
  2. A candidate for the Indian Statistical Service must have obtained a Bachelor's Degree with Statistics/Mathematical Statistics/Applied Statistics as one of the subject or a Master's degree in Statistics/Mathematical Statistics/Applied Statistics from a University incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or other Educational Institutes established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as University under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956 or a Foreign University approved by the Central Government from time to time.

Physical Standards :

Candidates must be physically fit according to physical standard for admission to Indian Economic Service/Indian Statistical Service Examination, 2026 as per Regulations given in Appendix III of the Rules for the Indian Economic Service/Indian Statistical Service Examination, 2026 published in Gazette of India dated 11th February, 2026.

Ahmedabad ,Jammu, Bengaluru, Kolkata ,Bhopal, Lucknow ,Chandigarh ,Mumbai,Chennai, Patna ,Cuttack ,Prayagraj (Allahabad) ,Delhi, Shillong ,Dispur, Shimla,Hyderabad ,Thiruvananthapuram,Jaipur.

Fee :

Candidates (except Female/SC/ST/Persons with Benchmark Disability (PwBD) Candidates who are exempted from payment of fee) are required to pay fee of Rs. 200/-(Rupees Two Hundred only) either by using Net Banking Facility of any bank or by using Visa/Master/RuPay/Credit/Debit Card/UPI Payment for appearing in Indian Economic Service/Indian Statistical Service Examination, 2026.

How to Apply :

Candidates are required to apply online only by using the website https://upsconline.gov.in . It is essential for the applicant to register himself/herself first at One Time Registration (OTR) platform, available on the Commissions website, and then proceed for filling up the online application for the examination. OTR Profile (Registration) has to be registered only once in life time. This can be done anytime throughout the year. If the candidate is already registered, he/she can proceed straightway for filling up the online application for the examination.
