Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today said that his government would consider waiving education loans of those students who were unable to repay them.
Addressing a function to mark launch of Bihar State Education Finance Corporation here, Mr Kumar said the government would waive loans of poor students finding it difficult to repay their education loans after completing necessary formalities. He said the Bihar State Education Finance Corporation had been created with a view to provide education loans to students under student credit card scheme without any difficulty as banks were following cumbersome process for the purpose.
Mr Kumar said student credit card scheme was launched with an objective to improve gross enrollment ratio. He said once only 13.9 percent of students after their 12th standard pursued their studies but now it had improved to 14.3 percent after the implementation of the scheme. The chief minister said the government had fixed the target of increasing it to 35 percent to 40 percent, adding that the national average was nearly 24 percent.
Mr Kumar said the people of the state were reluctant to take loans but they should not be scared and should come forward to take loans from the corporation. He also asked students to repay their education loans after completing their studies.
