Saina Nehwal Institute of Agricultural Technology Training & Education of Chaudhary Charan Singh, Haryana Agricultural University has been made an authorised centre of Agriculture Skill Council of India (ASCI), to award certificate/diploma of skill development in 19 different disciplines. Announcing this, the Vice-Chancellor Prof K P Singh said that in any country special emphasis is given to unemployed youth, farmers and women mainly for skill development programmes. At the same time, the skills and knowledge are two inspirational forces for the economic and social development of the country. The countries are really ahead who have achieved a high level of skill. This golden opportunity will benefit us only when our people, especially young people are healthy, educated and skilled. He said India is considered as a country of youth in which the number of young people aged between 18 and 35 years is 65 per cent of the country's population. This percentage is highest in the world. By developing their skills India can be brought forward in economic development.
It may be mentioned that under the Prime Minister's Skill Development Scheme, improvement in the courses, better training and trained teachers have been emphasised. National Skill Development Council (NSDC), a unit of the National Skill Development Mission, is a nonprofit company and is meeting the needs of skill training. Through the newly formed Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Ministry, National Skill Development Council (NSDC), 24 lakh youth will be brought under the purview of training.
Notably some time ago, an MoU was signed between Agriculture Skill Council of India and Haryana Agricultural University. Under this agreement, trainings will be conducted by CCSHAU as per National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF) in the areas of farm mechanisation, horticulture, seed production; crop production etc. and the trainees will be given certificates after their evaluation by the ASCI.
Dr Manju Dahiya, Associate Director (Training) at CCSHAU said that the certificate courses are going to start in 19 subjects areas shortly. These training courses will also be organised at Regional Research Stations and Krishi Vigyan Kendras of the University. The knowledge gained in training will help farmers, women and unemployed youth, especially those young people who cannot complete their studies, start their own small business and get employment. With this, they can reduce the ongoing problem of unemployment in the country. So far, the institute has trained 50 youths each on the nursery management in the trainings held in the month of April and May with the help of Agriculture Skill Council of India.
