ICMR-National Institute of Epidemiology launches e-Certificate courses

ICMR-National Institute of Epidemiology (NIE), a premier institute of Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) announced the launch of Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) 'NIE-ICMR e-Certificate' courses called NIeCer.

The courses aims to strengthen the research capacity in the country. According to a statement, Health Research Fundamentals (NIeCer 101) which was the first in the series, was a basic level course in health research methods. The course was designed and conducted by faculty members from ICMR School of Public Health at NIE. It would explain the fundamental concepts in epidemiology and bio-statistics related to research methods. This course would provide an overview of steps and principles for designing bio-medical and health research studies among human participants.

It was launched in 2016 and around 15,000 candidates participated in the course. The next session of the course was scheduled during August 6 to September 28. Interested participants could now register till August 6. For more details candidates could log on to http://nie.gov.in/niecer/niecer_page.htm.

The course was open to undergraduate students in medical/dental/AYUSH disciplines or graduates in any other discipline as well.

The duration of the course was 20 hours to be completed in eight weeks beginning on August 6. The course is offered free of cost. However, participants desirous of obtaining certificate have to appear for final certification exam at the end of the course for which Rs 1100 was to be paid as examination fee.
