Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) got recognition from the University Grants Commission (UGC) for period of five years from this academic year.

In an official note issued by UGC's Distance Education Bureau, KSOU has been granted permission to run courses from the 2018-2019 to 2022-2023. The move comes after there were several deliberations that KSOU officials had with the UGC authorities earlier this week.

KSOU Vice-Chancellor D Shivalingaiah termed this as a rebirth for the University. He said the university had applied for permission to run 32 courses, but received sanction for 17.

UGC has permitted the University to conduct 17 courses from 2018-19 to 2022-23. The problem that was bothering the KSOU since 2013-14 has finally come to an end. Due to the cancellation of the accreditation, future of thousands of students was at stake. UGC has granted accreditation for the University keeping in mind the future of the students and asked KSOU to start classes from the academic year 2018-19.

The admission will start until October this year on line also to get more students.
