Regional Institute of English

Set amidst sylvan surroundings, the Regional Institute of English (RIE) was established in 1963 under a scheme of the Government of India to address the educational needs of Chandigarh, Jammu & Kashmir, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Punjab. Located in the midst of educational institutions, it offers conducive atmosphere for learning. The functioning of the Institute is within the purview of the Chandigarh Administration.The Institute works in collaboration with the English and Foreign Languages University (EFL-U), Hyderabad under a Government of India Scheme and also collaborates with state governments, CBSE, Panjab University, NCERT, USIEF, the British Council and RELO, American Centre, New Delhi in various research projects and training programs from time to time.

Library: The Library of the Institute is housed in a hall measuring 1320 Sq.ft on the ground floor of the Institute building.The Library hall is surrounded by noise free and inviting reading environment for the readers.The Library hall has the facility to accommodate 30 readers at a time to access the information resources available in the Library. It is open for 08 hours. The Library remains closed on all Gazetted holidays, Saturday and Sunday. Lending services are available Monday to Friday 8.00 AM to 4.00 PM.The Library subscribes to 35 Periodicals and has a collection of 25000 books and other documents in the subject fields of Humanities, Social Sciences; Information and Communication Technology; Management and other related areas. The special collection of the Library consists of CDs and DVDs on ICT and other subjects of interest on value Education, Biographies, etc. Library also has a membership of INFLIBNET, DELNET and British Library.
Stidio: It is a film production center which is well equipped with a complete unit for the same. It has a high definition camera, studio lights and editing suite essential for film making.

Hostel Facilities Available: The Institute provides comfortable accommodation with modern amenities to the male participants attending its programmes. With a capacity to accommodate 30 occupants at a time the hostel offers the following facilities:Computers with Internet, Satellite Television, Co-operative Mess, Indoor and Outdoor Games.
