Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit is a statutory educational Institution constituted by Govt. of Kerala in 1993. The Regional Campus Tirur is one of the earliest regional centers established by the University. The Regional Campus started functioning in temporary building near Thunjanparambu at Tirur during November 1993 with courses at Post Graduate and Under Graduate level. The centre is located in the area having great historical and cultural relevance.
This centre could provide quality education to the students from the socially and economically backward areas of Malappuram district. The main deterrence for the development of the centre was non-availability of required extent of land for the construction of building. This hindrance was overcome when the benevolent and generous personality of Tirur Mr. P Padmanabhan Alias Unni (Manager, Navamukunda Higher Secondary School, Thirunnavaya) donated three acres of land in Thirunnavaya near the school.
