The College made a humble beginning in the year 1962 with the efforts of the eminent women personalities of the town who constituted into a committee called ‘Women’s education society of Kakinada’. The committee handed over the College to the Annavaram Devasthanam Trust in the year 1963 and it was managed by the Trust Board for about five years. Subsequently, in the year 1968 the College was taken over by the Govt.of Andhra Pradesh. In the year 1996 the College was bifurcated into Junior College and Degree College. Then onwards it has been named as ‘A.S.D.Govt. Degree College for Women, Kakinada’. The institution is in a prime location of Kakinada town with campus area of 7.75 acres connected with good transport facility.The College has 15 classrooms and 11 well equipped laboratories. A computerized library has around 40,000 books. It has 26 regular faculty members and 4 contract faculty working to support the principal. The strength of the college is 1128. The college is offering 07 conventional courses of Arts, Commerce and Sciences in UG and 03 Self financing courses offered in Computer Applications in B.Sc and B.Com in English medium.
Library: A library plays a very important role in promoting the progress of knowledge. It can be considered a store – house of knowledge.College library is an integral part of collegiate education. It performs a central function in the educational process in a college. It is characterized as an organization that preserves books and other reading materials and makes them available to readers.Our College provides enormous volumes of books to students with the count of books reaching 35000 milestone. Many students get benefitted by these books.Along with this we also make use of the services provided by INFLIBNET. Our faculty members and students utilize this facility efficiently.
Seminar Hall: The college has equipped itself with Infrastructure to create the required physical facilities to strengthen the learning environment. This would help the students to brighten their intellectual pursuits, in a suitable academic environment.There is a Seminar Hall fitted with TV, LCD Projector, OHP, Computer etc., the lecturers are encouraged to make use of these facilities extensively. Some of the lecturers utilize these facilities to supplement their class room lectures and to provide additional academic input to these students seminars, guest lectures and group discussions etc., are also arranged in this room. The students have benefit of watching the Tele-lessons telecast by the MANA TV (KU Band), an Educational TV of Government of Andhra Pradesh.
Health Center: Health Center was established in the college in the year 2004. Since then Dr. Krishnaveni was acting as the cosultant doctor till 2017. In the year 2018 Dr. S. Rama Tulasi Asst. professor, KIMS Hospital Consultant Dermatologist, Venerologist & Cosmetologist acting as the consultant doctor.
Hostel Facility
Hostel Facilities Available: Well established student’s managed hostel and Social welfare hostel are attached to college. They are located in backside to the main building of the college, within the campus. Due to the hostel facilities, the college is able to cater to the needs of the rural areas students.These Hostels accommodate up to 300 students and two governments BC Hostels outside the campus.Social Welfare Hostel is maintained by Warden appointed by Social Welfare Department.
