The School of Humanities came into existence in 2003 and subsequently obtained the assent of the Governor-Chancellor in 2005. The School was initially visualized as comprising the Departments of English, Tamil, Other Indian/Foreign Languages and Media Studies. Later, the disciplines of History, Tourism Studies and Criminology were added. Over a period of time, four Schools, i.e., School of Tamil and Cultural Studies, School of Journalism and New Media Studies, School of Criminology and Criminal Justice Administration and School of History and Tourism Studies were carved out this School. At present, the School functions with the Departments of English and Film Studies.
