Advanced Centre for Treatment, Research and Education in Cancer (ACTREC)

The Advanced Centre for Treatment, Research and Education in Cancer (ACTREC) is the state-of-the-art R&D satellite of the Tata Memorial Centre (TMC), which also includes under its umbrella the Tata Memorial Hospital (TMH), the largest cancer hospital in Asia. ACTREC has the mandate to function as a national centre for treatment, research and education in cancer. TMC is an autonomous grant-in-aid institution of the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Government of India. It is registered under the Societies Registration Act (1860) and the Bombay Public Trust Act (1950). Its Governing Council is headed by the Chairman, Atomic Energy Commission, Government of India.

Library:Library works with a mandate to acquire and update the latest research information on cancer and allied areas to all the staff members. During the year 2008, the library subscribed to 90 journals - 11 Indian and 79 International, and added several books and back volumes of journals to its collection. Today, the total collection of books stands at 5700 while that of bound volumes is 10649. Theses (502), staff publications (2361), CD-ROMs and video cassettes are the additional collections that the library houses. Recently library has added 30 e-books to its collection on OvidSP platform. All these e-books are accessible online round the clock (24X7) in the campus.
Laboratory:The Laboratory Animal Facility (LAF) is located in an exclusive and specially designed building with over 15,000 sq. ft. area spread over two floors. The first floor houses the rooms for rodents, which are maintained under dark & light cycles and controlled conditions for temperature, humidity, air pressure as per the regulatory requirements with the help of HVAC system. The ground floor houses the service areas (washing, autoclaving and animal feed) as also various laboratories (biochemistry, microbiology, genetic monitoring and histology) and quarantine room.
 
 Hostel Facility
ACTREC provides in-house hostel facilities for its research scholars and summer / short-term trainees. This hostel encompass 14 furnished flats that are available for allotment to students on twin sharing basis. Each flat with attached kitchen and bath / toilet is furnished adequately as student housing. The hostel has a common room equipped with a sofa set, chairs, television, water cooler, 2 washing machines gymnasium, first-aid box, fire extinguishers and an emergency light. A public telephone facility for making local and STD calls is provided near the security desk. A watchman is posted round the clock at the hostel entrance, and an on-campus Asst. Security Officer with a mobile phone is on call 24 hrs. A vehicle and driver are available for emergency use, especially after office hours.
