Department of Linguistics and Punjabi Lexicography (originally The Department of Linguistics and Survey) established in 1966. The department was started with the aim of promotion of linguistic studies for the overall development of Punjabi language. The department is known for its teaching and research contribution in the field of linguistics and lexicography.
Library:The Departmental library contains more than 3000 books on various branches of Linguistics and Punjabi Language, Literature and Culture studies, etc.
Computer Lab: A course on 'Language Technology' is introduced in the M.A. curriculum. For this purpose Computer Lab is being established. Its main motive is to provide practical training to the students. At present there are 12 computers and 3 laptops within the Department. Each computer of the lab has the facility of high speed internet connection.
Placement Service Available.A large number of M.A./M.Phil/Ph.D. students of the Departments have obtained employment in research institutions such as Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (MHRD, Govt. of India), Central Institute of Indian Languages (Mysore) and a number of educational institutions in Punjab and India.
