IISERs were created through a proclamation of Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, to promote quality education and research in science and related areas. The first two IISERs (Pune and Kolkata) were established in 2006. This was followed by an Institute at Mohali (2007), Bhopal & Trivandrum (2008), Tirupati (2015), and Berhampur (2016). IISERs were incorporated as Institutions of National Importance under the umbrella of the NIT (Amendment) Act, 2012 (NIT Act 2007). The Act was further amended in 2014, entitled the NITSER ACT 2014. Each IISER is a degree-granting autonomous institute.
The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India, has proclaimed Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Berhampur to promote quality education and cutting edge research in basic sciences and to provide a platform for the faculty to engage in high quality education, at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Computer Center: Computer Centre (CC) of IISER Berhampur provides an institute wide fiber network that connects all the academic, hostels, administrative buildings to the Computer Centre. Internet access is provided by 50 Mbps (1:1) dedicated Internet leased circuit through one Internet service providers. The Institute has newly installed advance servers of 2 X 12 core intel Xeon processor E5-2650 @ 2.2 GHz with 30 MB L3 Cache, IQI 6.40 GT/s, 32 GB DDR4 2400 MHz, hot plug SAS Hard Disk for running our own internal/external DNS, centralized authentication mechanism using LDAP, storage services for each user of IISER Berhampur and personal homepage hosting services for academic staff.
Library: Library operations are automated using KOHA open source library management software. Library currently houses over 2200 books, 11 print journals/ magazines.
