The School of Drama and Fine Arts (formerly School of Drama) started in 1977 by Prof. G Sankara Pillai and the classes started form 1978 with only 3 year degree course (BTA). Now offers Bachelor in Theatre Arts (BTA), Master in Theatre Arts (MTA), M Phill / Ph.D Integrated course etc.. The courses in Drama is designed as practical oriented and residential. Writing, Acting, Children's theatre, Direction, Technical designs etc are the major departments of play production. Apart form regular classes, varieties of practical workshops are conducted by the experts in the field of Television, Cinema, Traditional acting methods, Yoga, Martial arts etc.. Major plays are presented as the part of practical study. This is the only centre in south India conducting "Foreign students placement programme". Calicut University Little Theater (CULT) is a repertoire company that has been attached to School of Drama.
The music section offers M.A Music course. that comes with the through study of South Indian Karnatic music in an advanced manner and a general study of other prominent systems of music prevailing on different parts of the country, both theory and practice. The training program includes theoretical and practical oriented projects, seminars, demonstrations, guest lectures etc..
