The Department was created in 2006 with an objective of improving the quality as well as quantity of research activities under Manipal Academy of Higher Education, to provide training in statistical methods to all level of researchers and to create opportunites in the field of biostatistics. The Department in March 2007 started the Certificate program in Biostatistcs, epidemiology and research methodology and started M.Sc Biostatistics program in August 2007.Till date the department also manages to attract funding of more than 5 million INR.The department also started an unique course for people working in pharmaceutical industry called “Executive Education Program in Biostatistcs” in collaboration with Novartis Health care Ltd, Hyderabad which is the first of its kind in the country. Currently, the departmet is going to start Ph.D program in collaboration with pharmaceutical industry. Presently, the department has many academic and industry collaboration with national and international organizations. Department of Statistics comes under Kasturba medical college(Manipal) which is Medical Council of India (MCI) and University Grants Commission (UGC) recognized.
