National Institute of Fashion Technology Kolkata laid its plinth stone in the year 1995.The Institute rejuvenated itself with its sprawling five-acre campus at Salt Lake layout in 1999.Today NIFT Kolkata has more than 750 students as its family and a host of facilities to its credit available at the disposal of every NIFT student. With a symbiotic balance amongst the state government and the garment industries, NIFT stands as a pioneer of fashion training and research.

he NIFT, Kolkata has a Resource Centre, a key wing of the institute which consists of the Library Wing and Material Wing.
Library Wing: The library consists of varied books covering information regarding garments, fashion and technology. The wing also subscribes to fashion journals and fashion forecast. Videotapes, Slides and CD-ROM are a part of this wing from where visual information can be collected. It provides various publications (Fashion periodical Index, Bibliographies on request, Subject/Picture files) to the members.
Material Wing:The material wing consists of Textiles, costumes, finding and accessories.
NIFT Placement Cell facilitates on campus placements for graduation students of NIFT to enable them to start their careers in challenging positions. Leading national and international apparel companies vie with each other to recruit NIFT professionals. The star employers of NIFT professionals in the past from domestic companies have been United Colours of Benetton, Provogue, Weekender, Schullers, Urban yoga, Be::, Van Huesan, Louis Phillip, Spykar jeans, Lacoste, Gap, eSpree, Nike, Adidas, Reebok, Park Avenue and Parks, Excalibur, Wills Lifestyle, Lifestyle, Shopper's Stop, Pantaloons, Tommy Hilfiger, Triburg, etc. have been regularly offering key decision making positions to graduating students.
