NIFT Chennai is consistently retaining 5th position among Top 10 Fashion Institutes of India since 2014 in the Survey by Outlook Magazine. Government of India, set up the National institute of Fashion Technology in 1986 as a Registered Society with the status of an Autonomous Body. The prime objective of this institute is to assist the apparel/fashion industry in meeting the industrial competitiveness on a global plane.
The institute provides the state-of-the-art facilities for its students and faculty members with inner courtyard and outer courtyard attached with table tennis , basketball court ,badminton court and a gymnasium.The institute also provides a regular transport facility to convey students to do their industry visits.
Resource Centre: The Resource Centre of NIFT Chennai supports the Faculty, Students, educational and Research institutions and the Apparel Industry. This centre acts as a catalyst and provided valuable information to the members through its various services.
The Library wing of the Resource Centre has rich collection of books, journals, A-V materials, CD-ROMS etc., Books on subjects like arts & Crafts, Fashion, Garment Manufacturing, Leather, Footwear, Leather Goods, Jewellery, Management, Merchandising etc., are available at the Library. It subscribes to leading Indian / Foreign journals in the areas of Fashion, Garments, Textiles, Footwear, Leather Goods, Fashion Accessories etc.,
