Thoothukudi Government Medical College

The Govt. Thoothukudi Medical College was started and functioning from 16.08.2000. Initially located inside the campus of Fisheries Department, Beach Road, then shifted to the present Medical College block in 3rd Mile, Thoothukudi during the year 2001. The first batch of MBBS students were admitted during the academic year 2000-2001. In this college, Non-Clinical and Clinical departments are functioning. Sanction has been given for admission of 100 students for M.B.B.S. course every Academic year from the year 2000-2001. The seats have been increased to 150 seats from the year 2013-2014. 55 students are admitted and trained in the course of Diploma in Nursing from the Academic Year 2003-2004. DMLT Courses of two years duration and One Year Paramedical Certificate Course (Emergency Care Technician, Respiratory Therapy, Anaesthesia Technician, Theatre Technician and Orthopaedic Technician) were started from 2005-2006 with the total intake of 100 students and 150 students respectively. CRA (Certified Radiological Assistant) Course was started from the academic year 2007-2008. Moreover in Nursing Assistant Course for both gents and ladies, 50 students are trained every year from the academic year 2009-2010. During this academic year, 105 trainees are undergoing (CRRI) internship training.

Library: A Well ventilated Central Library facility with a floor area of 2400 sq.ft is a available .The library has reading rooms for students residents and staff members. More then 11,0000 books are available in the library national and international journals are subscribed annually. The library is Wi-Fi enabled to access the internet.
Leture Hall: The College has 4 Lecture halls with a seating capacity of 180 and one Lecture halls with a seating capacity of 400. All the lecture hall have state of the art facility fitted with the most modern teaching devices like computer interactive touch panels, LCDs , High Resolutions Projectors and Document Camera's.
Demo Rooms: The College facility include demonstration room with a capacity to seat 60 students. Each of these demonstration rooms are equipped with communication devices, LCD Projectors, Hi-Tech Audio Video visual Aide.
Laboratories: We have well equipped central lab available to carry out routine and specialised investigations. Each ward has a separate side lab. College campus houses Student lab, Clinical Lab & research lab.
 
 Hostel Facility
Separate hostels for boys & girls with all recreational facilities like gymnasium, TV, Reading Hall , Indoor & Out-Door Game facilities.
