Govt. Arts and Science College, Calicut is the only government college within the territory of Kozhikode City Corporation. The college was started functioning at Govt. Training College, Mananchira, Kozhikode under the principalship of Prof. Karimpuzha Ramakrishnan on 10 August, 1964, as per Govt. Order MS No. 309/Edn. dated 29.07.1964, for satisfying the age long demand of educationists and political leaders of the region. The college was shifted in 1968 to the present location, Meenchanda covering an area of 20.15 acres This land was donated to government by the Zamorin family to start an educational institution.. It is five kilometers away from Calicut Railway Station, on the side of the National Highway 17 with easy access by all means of transportation. The college crossed a landmark in its history by celebrating the Golden Jubilee in the year 2014.
library:As a centre of intense intellectual inquiry, the General Library of Govt. Arts & Science College, Kozhikode tries to prove itself to be the most dynamic library in providing professional assistance to students and faculty in their academic activities. In addition to providing materials, the library also provides various information and research services like finding and organizing information and at interpreting information needs
Language Lab: The language lab, set up with Govt. of Kerala aid is of great help to the students in the field of language acquisition and application of the soft skills.
Edusat facilities: The college has a good Edusat studio with all modern equipments and facilities like video conferencing for the benefit of the students and teachers.
Internet access: Our college there is a full- fledged computer lab, with more than 40 systems.
College Canteen: The college canteen ensures the supply of hygienic and healthy food and refreshment to students and staff at affordable rates.
Co-operative Store: The co-operative store at the college provides steady supply of study materials and stationery items for the staff and students at a subsidized rate. All students and staff are the members of the store.
Hostel Facility
The college has a good hostel for ladies constructed utilizing one crore each from the Kerala Govt. Plan fund and UGC grant. The hostel can accommodate 50 students.

Under Graduate Students: Rs.1000/- per month for (Subject to a Maximum of Rs. 10,000/- for an academic year).
Post-Graduate studies: Rs. 2000/- per month (Subject to a Maximum of Rs. 20,000/- for an academic year), provided they are selected for Scholarship at UG level.
Professional Courses: Rs.1000/- per month for the first three years (Subject to a Maximum of Rs. 10,000/- for an academic year) and Rs. 2000/- per month for the 4th and 5th years of study (Subject to a maximum of Rs. 20,000/- for an academic year).
