Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) is one of the institutes in India, highly accredited and top ranking farm school in southern peninsular India. The Institute has undergone rapid strides in agricultural education and research and become the premier in the field of agricultural sciences. It was first established as an Agricultural School at Saidapet, Chennai (Madras), in 1868 and later relocated to Coimbatore as Agricultural College and Research Institute, in 1906. The full-fledged Agricultural University was formed in 1971. Thereafter, the discipline of agriculture branched profusely, which commensurate with consistent growth in the field of Agricultural Sciences. Presently, the University has ten constituent colleges distributed over seven campuses and 36 research stations covering the entire State of Tamil Nadu. The major Science -based undergraduate programmes include Agriculture, Horticulture, Agricultural Engineering, Forestry, Home Science and Agri business management apart from Technology- based courses viz. Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, Horticulture, Food Processing Engineering (FPE), Energy and Environmental Engineering (EEE) and Agri Information Technology. Each discipline offers a wide range of postgraduate and doctoral programmes in order to cater to the burgeoning agricultural growth and development.

Fee concessions and scholarships such as Adi Dravida welfare scholarships, Central
Government scholarships, State Government free education for student from non-graduate
family, Periyar Endowment scholarships and fellowships and scholarships from the Indian
Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi and other agencies are available for the benefit of
deserving enrolled candidates. These may vary according to the degree / college to which
candidates are admitted and respective funding agencies.
