The golden pages of history witnessed an educational revolution in the year 1993 with the inception of N.M.S.Sermathai Vasan College for women, by Nadar Mahajana Sangam with a mission to uplift the educational status of women in and around madurai. The college was named after the benevolent philanthropist Thiru. V.G.Vasan, and Thirumathi Sermathai Vasan, who believed the empowerment of women is through knowledge and economic independence. The hand that rocks the cradle can rock the world is the vision of V.P.R. Gangaram Durairaj, the founder of the college. The college is presently run by Nadar mahajana sangam, and hails its preeminent status among several educational institutions run by the Nadar Mahajana Sangam by providing quality and task based learning environment. The college is housed at the outskirts of madurai in a serene and spacious environment and permanently affiliated to Madurai Kamaraj University.
Library: The Library is the heart of the institution. It is to promote sharing of resources by collecting, storing and disseminating information and by offering computerized services to the users.A well equipped library is enabled to the staff and the students to enrich and enhance their knowledge. Further each department maintains a library pertaining to their subject. Our students make an optimum use of the facilities available in the learning resource centre within the campus.
Canteen: The Canteen functions mostly for the beneficiary of students.An amiable, hygienic and delicious foods are available in the canteen.Lunch,Snacks,tea,coffee,coll drinks are provided at subsidized rate.
Computer Lab: The Institution is having 7 fully equipped Computer Labs.Over 40 spacious computers are available in each Computer Lab with the latest configurations.All the computer systems are connected by LAN for the benefit of students.
Language Lab: The institution has English Communication Lab with the prime objectives for developing the four major skills among the students. They are : Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking.The lab serves as a dynamic learning tool for the students to learn the language enthusiastically.It helps them strengthen their Positive Attitude and Confidence level.
Meeting Halls: Our campus is provide with 2 conference halls.Each hall has the seating capacity of 500 members.The conference hall is spacious, well ventilated and has well furnished.Departmental activities such as National level events were conducted at the conference hall.Faculty Development Programme is conducted in the Seminar Hall, to update the Knowledge of our Faculty Members.The objective behind the Conference Hall is to enhance the quality of education.To make this possible, the Conference Hall offers facilities such as LCD projectors, screens, white-boards for delivering lectures.
Transportation: Apart from that 8 PRC (Ladies special) buses Ply from Arappalayam, Thirumangalam, Periyar, Anuppanadi, Anna bus stand.Our transport fleet consists of 10 buses with an extensive coverage in all directions.Even though our college is in the outskirts of Madurai city, our management renders best transport facility.Nominal Transport fee will be charged for the students who avail the transport facility.
Hostel Facility
Hostel Facilities Available: V.V. Balakrishnan Nadar Visalakshi Ammal Hostel equipped with well hostel facility for 500 girls and these are close to the academic block in the campus itself.Spacious, ventilated and furnished rooms for the comfortable stay of hostel students.Kitchens are well equipped with modern steam cooking systems.Clean and hygienic dining halls are maintained throughout.Hostels are provided with reading rooms, TV rooms and recreation halls.Students admitted to the hostel will not be allowed to stay outside the college during the period of their course.
