The Institute has been established as an autonomous body in 1990 under the aegis of the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India. In 2004, it has been designated as "A Centre under Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management (IITTM)" by the Ministry of Tourism, Govt. of India. Prof Sandeep Kulshreshtha is presently its Director (www.iittm.net).The Institute is governed by the Board of Governors, Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management. The Board shall be responsible for the organization, general superintendence, direction and control of the activities of the Institute.In February 2007, Prof. Sutheeshna Babu. S (PhD- JNU) took charge of the Institute as its Nodal Officer.
