St. Thomas College of Teacher Education

St. Thomas College of Teacher Education owes its existence to God through the farsighted vision of His Excellency Mar George Punnakottil and late Very Rev. Fr. Joseph Puthenkulam, the then Secretary of the Corporate Educational Agency, Diocese of Kothamangalam. St. Thomas College of Teacher Education was established in the year 2005 as a self-financing institution affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam and recognized by National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE).

Library:The college endeavours to maintain a well-equipped Library with 4707 books on different subjects, 500 references 104 Encyclopaedias and 11 Dictionaries. The colleges subscribe 11 Journals, 4magazines, 3 Newspapers and 1 newsletter. A good collection of educational DVD/CDs are also available in the library.
IT Lab: The College has taken initiative in spreading Computer literacy in this village since 2005. Computer Education is imparted to B.Ed. and M.Ed students in the Computer laboratory with Internet and all other allied supporting systems required for a well-equipped and advanced Computer Centre.
Science Laboratory:A science laboratory is functioning in the college. The laboratory is equipped with various apparatus for conducting experiments in Physics/Chemistry/Biology that are appropriate for high school classes.
Social Science laboratory:The College has a well equipped social science laboratory. It is equipped with apparatuses and material required for the subject, which helps in creating and maintaining a much needed congenial atmosphere for effective learning.
Mathematics Lab: Mathematics Laboratory is a place where students can learn and explore mathematical concepts and verify mathematical facts and theorems through a variety of activities using different materials.
Language Lab: With a view to ensure global competencies in our students, the college has established a digital language lab to help our students develop and refine their communicative skills in English. The lab is equipped with 10 computers. Internet connectivity is also provided in the lab.
As per the guidelines of the N.C.T.E the college has a Psychology Laboratory. Verbal, non-verbal and performance tests are available in the lab. Students are given practical sessions to familiarise themselves with various psychological tests and obtain practical skills in their administration, scoring and interpretation.
Gymnasium:We have started a training programme in Yoga in the year 2015 under the leadership of Mr. Francis K. J. (Physical Education Director) trained Yoga through Art of Living Classes of Sri Sri Ravi Sankar and Yoga Classes by Healthy Living Foundation,Thodupuzha. Dr. Shimna Paul (Asst.Professor) trained Yoga through ‘Art of Living’ classes of Sri Sri Ravi Sankar.
Museum:The college has a unique biology museum with specimen of different Human developmental stages, organs, Coelenterates, Nemetodes, Annelides, Athropdes, Molluscs, Echinodermates, Fishes, Amphibians, Reptiles, Skeletal systems of different organisms, Stuffed specimens and botanical specimens.
 
 Hostel Facility
There are 2 hostels that accommodate the students of St. Thomas College of Teacher Education
1. S.H Hostel The S.H Hostel directly attached to the college provides accommodation to majority of our Female students.
2. St.Alphonsa Hostel A private hostel in collaboration with the college management provides accommodation for our male students.
