Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Govt. Polytechnic was established in the year 1984 and Second Govt. Polytechnic was established in the year 1989 in the same campus has been renamed as Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Institute of Technology on 16th April 2010. Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Institute of Technology offers Degree, Diploma in Engineering apart from various maritime programmes. The institute also offers various non-formal courses in the campus as well as through its extension centre spread over different islands of A & N group of Islands.
A well established infrastructured multipurpose hall were students could play volleyball, basketball, Table Tennis, Badminton and all indoor games. The institute provides three buses which are made available both for students and staff of the institute. Bus services for local students are provided on nominal charges.
Hostel Facility
Separate accommodation for boys and girls is available within the campus for the students hailing from other islands except South Andaman. Hostel facilities is not available for the students residing in Port Blair within the radius of 20Kms.
The Training & Placement Cell acts as a facilitator and oraganizer for various training activities pertaining to staff & students and placement activities pertaining to the students. The Training & Placement Cell also handles the Continuing Education Programmes of the institute and various activities concerning the Industry - Institute Interaction programmes. Presently the alumni activity is also being monitored by the Training & Placement Cell. The training cell is backed by the Audio Visual wing, which gives infrastructural support to various training activities. It is well equipped with all basic training aids
