National Institute of Technology (NIT)

National Institute of Technology, Manipur, a centrally funded institution is set up to impart quality technical education to various levels of higher learning. It is one of the ten newly set up NIT’s by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India vide its order no. F.23-13-2009-TS-III dated 30th October 2009 and 3rd March 2010. It has been established to cater to the needs of the thousands of students from the North East and outside in the field of Technical Education. With National Institute of Technology, Agartala as its mentor institute and tremendous support from the State Govt. of Manipur, NIT, Manipur started its first session on 1st August, 2010. The Institute has been established under the Manipur Societies Registration Act, 1989. (Regd. No. 425/M/SR/2010). The temporary campus of NIT, Manipur is located at the campus of Government Polytechnic, Imphal which is only 1km far from the permanent site. The temporary campus provides well furnished hostel accommodation with round the clock power supply, water supply and internet facilities. NIT, Manipur has a permanent site of 138.2 hectares in the lush green area of Langol in Imphal.

The Institute has all basic infrasructural facilities for conducting undergraduate courses satisfactorily. Its got adequate number of well quality and experienced faculty member and technical supporting staff. A well-equipped Medical Unit with adequate Medical officer including supporting staff is available in the campus for rendering medical care to students,staff and other inmate in the campus. In case of emergency, arrangements are made for shifting the patient to the Regional Institute of Medical Science(RIMS), Imphal and JNIMS, Imphal, which are not for away from the campus.
 
 Hostel Facility
The institute has both Boys' hostel and Girls' hostel facilties. Presently there are two Boys' hostel and one Girl's hostel. However, seats are limited at present. In coming year, more hostels will be available in the campus itself for which master plan has already been prepared. the process of construction of hostels for both boys boys and girls has been initiated.

The placement office handles all aspects of campus placements for the graduating students at NIT Manipur. The office is well equipped with excellent infra-structure to support every stage of the placement process. Arrangement for Pre-Placement Talks, Interviews, Group Discussions etc. are all handled by the staff at the office. The placement policies and other related activities are handled by Training and Placement officer in consultation with the student representatives . The process of coordinating with companies for recruitment is handled by the Placement Cell. The companies are encouraged to contact Placement Cell for initial discussions for confirming schedules and official communication.
