Kumaraguru College of Technology (KCT), Coimbatore is an Engineering College started in 1984 under the auspices of Ramanandha Adigalar Foundation, a charitable educational trust of Sakthi Group. It is situated in a sprawling campus of 150 acres in the IT corridor of Coimbatore which in many ways was a front runner in the eco system. Currently the college, as an autonomous institution affiliated to the Anna University,offers 13 under-graduate (B.E., B.Tech.) and 14 post-graduate (M.E., M.Tech., MCA, MBA) programs of study. All the above courses have the approval of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and all the eligible UG programs have also been accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA). In addition, KCT has also been accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) of the University Grants Commission (UGC). 9 of the 15 academic departments have been recognized as research centers permitting research leading to Ph.D. degree by Anna University.
Library: Mahatma Gandhi Central Library of our college is housed in the first floor of the Dr. Mahalingam Vigyan Bhavan in an area of 16945 sq.ft. (1575 sq.m.). Central library has a collection of 104475 volumes and 66559 titles included. The central library subscribed 178 Print Journals, 48 magazines and 9122 Online International Journals for scholarly communication.
Cafeteria :A cafeteria is functioning in the campus for the benefit of students & staff. There are three other smaller cafes and refreshment outlets inside the campus. Spacious, airy & trendy cafeteria offers ample scope for students to break free from their arduous schedules and enjoy appetizing food in an extremely casual yet pleasant ambience.
Computing Infrastructure: Large clusters of PCs are networked as LANs and are used for the laboratory classes under the curriculum not only in Computer Science related courses but also in many allied areas with computer based design and analysis as parts of the course program. 120 PCs are connected to the LAN inside the I year Computer Lab and are intensively used for acquiring basic skills in programming. Language Lab also employs 72 PCs for self-learning of correct usage of English by students. There is also a centralized Computer Aided Design (CAD) Lab with 160 high end PCs used by several departments involved in design of structures, equipment, vehicles etc. Many of them use powerful software like ANSYS, CATIA etc. Specialized software for domain specific analysis and design applications are available with individual departments, while commonly used applications are loaded in the central servers.
All the computers are interconnected with 13 Nos. of HP BL460C Blade Servers housed in a HP C6000 Blade Enclosure located in a Centralized Server Room through a multilayer hierarchical network using core, distribution and access level switches. While the computers inside academic blocks are connected using AMP CAT 6 UTP cables, all the blocks are interconnected using fibre optic cables and the servers are connected to this fibre based backbone.
Dhyana Mandapam: The serene, quiet interior of the air-conditioned Dhyana Mandapam, located opposite to the Gnanavinayagar Temple provides just the right environment to all our students, staff and guests to meditate.
Gym: There are well equipped international standard Gyms separately for men / women students and staff in an area of 2400 sq.ft with the latest equipment in the well laid out in in-door Gym units.
Medical Centre: Aruljothi Medical Center in the campus is an eight bedded hospital with two doctors and nursing assistants. Patients requiring specialized treatment are sent to the nearest multi-speciality hospitals with which the institution has tie up.
Seminar Halls:
There are four A/C seminar halls each with 250 seating fapacity located at Dr.Mahalingam Vigyan Bhavan.
Gnanavinayagar Temple: The temple for the Mudhar Kadavul close to the main entrance of the college gives us a promising start to all the occasions and happenings in our campus.
Transport: The College has a fleet of buses, vans and cars to transport students and staff from different places in and around Coimbatore to college and back.
Book Store:A student book store functions in the campus that supplies books and stationaries to the students at the best price. The students have to deposit an amount to avail this facility and no money transactions are made at the store. Stationaries required by departmental staff are also supplied from this store.
Bank: In our campus we have a branch of Karur Vysya Bank, started in the year 1990 for the convenience of students and staff members. KVB, with 470 branches and over 1000 ATMs, has been ranked as the best private sector bank at the Bloomberg – UTV Financial Leadership Awards, 2012.
Auditorium: The air-conditioned auditorium has a capacity of 1800 seating and an excellent stage to be used for all common functions / events.
Hostel Facility
KCT students Hostel is an integral part of the college campus. It has two distinct sections for boys and girls students. The gents’ hostel comprises of four blocks with total of 445 rooms with a capacity to accommodate 1335 students. The Ladies hostel has a total of 329 rooms in its three blocks with a capacity to accommodate 987 students. All men and women residents of the hostel are provided rooms on a triple sharing basis. All common areas like dining, washrooms, lobby, terrace, etc. are provided separately for men and women’s hostels.
