St. Berchmans College was founded in 1922 by Mar Thomas Kurialacherry, Bishop of the Roman Catholic Arch-diocese of Changanassery. It is now affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi University, Kerala and has been reaccredited by NAAC at A+ level. It has been recognised by the UGC as a college with Potential for Excellence.
College Library has two sections : General and Reference. The general library consists of a reading room (ground floor) a reference cum reading room (first floor) and the general stack (second floor on the first mezzanine floor).The libraries of the various departments are housed in the third and fourth floors.The third floor is the reading room and the reference section for the postgraduate students and its mezzanine floor or the fourth floor is the departmental stack.
