Founded in 2001, as a response to the need for an interdisciplinary understanding of issues related to the study of law and governance, CSLG owes much to the group of people who worked extremely hard to defend the idea of the Centre and build a creative institution. For this a great deal of credit must be scripted to the founding Director of the Centre, Professor Kuldeep Mathur. Initially, five faculty members were recruited, with Professor Pratap Bhanu Mehta (of the Centre of Philosophy, JNU) holding a concurrent appointment at the Centre. This team initiated a Doctoral Programme of Study, and a teaching programme comprising of pre-doctoral course modules. It also held a series of wide-ranging conversations, with colleagues across the University, as it designed an M.Phil. programme, and evolved a set of innovative courses.

1 .	M.Phil. Law
	Eligibility P.G. in Political Science, Public Administration, Economics, Sociology, History, Philosophy or Law with 55% marks; or 60% in any branch of natural science.
	Duration 2 years
	Admission Procedure Admission to the M.Phil./PhD Programme is by an entrance examination conducted by the University, followed by a viva voce for those candidates who qualify in the written examination.

	Other Details The M.Phil. programme consists of 3 compulsory courses; 3 optional courses; and a dissertation. Each course carries 3 credits, and the course requirements are to be completed in the first two semesters of the programme. The dissertation carries 10 credits and is to be completed by the end of the fourth semester. While the three core compulsory courses provide a general overview of the issues and debates in the area of law and governance, the optional courses provide the students with the opportunity to develop a specialization, and so build up an expertise that can be further channelized in the dissertation work.
