The Department of History is one of the oldest Departments of the University Founded in 1961 with an emphasis on teaching and research activities. The range of teaching and research include Medieval, Modern, Contemporary Indian History, South Asian Studies and Regional History with special emphasis on Haryana and Punjab studies.
Department has its own Library with a wide range of books on the different themes and areas of studies in the discipline of History. Recently, the Library has been enriched with a great amount of the latest books on various aspects of history and the South Asian Studies. Along with this, the infrastructural changes has also been made in the Library to upgrade it to the essential requirements.
The Department has established a Placement Cell. As per the record of the Placement Cell during the last four years nearly forty students of the Department have been placed as the School Lecturers, Assistant Professors in the College Cadre and as Research Officials in the different Research Institutes of India. The Students of the Department have also been placed as Officials in the Haryana Civil Services, Indian Revenue Services and Post-Doctorate Fellow at the University of Zurich, Switzerland.
