Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar, the premier historical educational institution of Northern India, recognized as college having Potential For Excellence by the UGC in 2016, is ranked among the top institutions of country. The genesis of this great institution dedicated to selfless-service of humanity dates back to 1908, when it was established first as Khalsa School at Lyallpur (now known as Faislabad in Pakistan) and later developed into a college in 1926. After its reestablishment in Jalandhar in 1948 following the partition of the country, the college has established itself as a leader in the field of higher education.Currently, it is imparting quality education to more than 7500 students including over 3000 girls. The college was accredited as A grade college by the NAAC in 2004 and was reaccredited as A grade college with a high CGPA of 3.74 in 2011.The College offers an rich academic diversity to its students through over 45 academic programmes at graduate and postgraduate degree , diploma and certificate levels in the streams of Humanities, Commerce, Computer Science and Information Technology, Science and Physiotherapy. The list includes programmes ranging from traditional to most modern and technology based, job oriented courses. The UGC has granted the college two unique ultra modern vocational courses- B.Voc. (Printing Technology) and B.Voc. (Software System). These two courses have been awarded by the UGC under Vocational Courses Scheme with a financial Assistance of Rs. 1.85 Crore and each of these job oriented courses is of graduation degree level and of three year duration with 10+2 as eligibility.
Library: he fully computerized college library Guru Nanak Library is one of the richest libraries in the region with a wide range of rare books on diverse subjects on its shelf. The central two-story library housed in a separate building with a spacious seating arrangement is a rich resource for students with access to a huge collection of books, Encyclopedias, Biographies, Journals, Magazines, Educational Cds and Newspapers etc. Flexible timing of library allows students to cater their academic tastes. The library staff is always keen to accommodate and guide students.
Cafeteria: Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar has a double story canteen. College canteen building is near the open-air theatre. It can accommodate 500 students at a time. The cleanliness and hygiene in the canteen and hospitality of canteen staff mark the features of a spacious canteen. Students can enjoy a variety of Indian and continental food items at affordable prices. Apart from Canteen, there is a kiosk of juice and coffee and a mini cafeteria on the campus. Canteen and cafeteria display the menu and price list for the convenience of all.
Auditorium: Soon Lyallpur Khalsa College will boast of having one big auditorium which will feature all the modern state of art facilities. It is under construction and approaching fast to its completion. This hall will have enough seating capacity to organize bigger events under a roof like Annual Report function and Convocation Program.
Seminar Halls: The college has a spacious and envious academic infrastructure. It includes 3 seminar halls and a conference hall. Dept. of Computer Science has its own separate conference room. These well built and well-lit halls have ample seating capacity. The acoustically sound halls are fully air-conditioned and are well equipped with state of the art audio-visual equipment. These halls cater to versatile use like conferences, seminars, quiz shows, briefings, guest lectures, symposiums, project presentations, faculty development programs, and meetings etc.
Hostel Facility
Hostel Facilities Available: The College accommodates boys and girls in the separate hostels. The boy’s hostel building has spacious and airy rooms with marble flooring. An up to date mess has been attached to the hostel. It has all the modern facilities right from automation of kneading and cooking to the washing of utensils. There is a provision of a hot water system in the kitchen. Even day scholars and staff members can eat in the mess at subsidizing the price. Such facilities are hardly available in any other college hostel in entire northern India. The hostel houses more than 400 students. Proper identity cards are provided to inmates. Hostel and Mess Committee comprising teachers and students supervise cleanliness and hygiene and takes care of the general complaints of the inmates. College also offers Air conditioned rooms to the inmates.There is a separate multi-story Girls Hostel with similar modern facilities. It is located in the staff colony which makes it absolutely safe and secure. The hostel accommodates almost 400 girl students. Anti Ragging Committee makes sure the safety of the inmates.
Placement Service Available: As many as 42 students of Lyallpur Khalsa College were placed in various MNCs and national level companies in the Placement Week held in the college. The Placement In charge of the college Mr. Udeybir Singh informed that these students belonging to faculties such as Arts, Science, CommerceIn charge and Computers got placement in companies such as Unit Nexus, IBM and Genpact.
