Haldia is a famous river-port town situated on the banks of the Hooghly River. It is an expanding industrial belt in eastern India. The Department of Higher Education, Government of West Bengal, realizing the educational needs of this rapidly growing town and its adjoining areas, decided to establish the second government college in the erstwhile district of Medinipur in 1988. As a result Haldia Government College was instituted. Under the affiliation of Vidyasagar University, the college came into being in 1988
Canteen: The College has a canteen where food is available at a reasonable rate for students.
Common Rooms: The College has separate common rooms for boys and girls well equipped with indoor game and sports arrangements.
Gymnasium: The College has a nine-point Multi-gymnasium in the Department of Physical Education. Every year students can access the Gymnasium
Library: The College has a central library with a very rich collection of text books, reference books and journals numbering approximately 40,000. In addition to this each department maintains a seminar library of its own.
Play Ground: There are two playgrounds within the college campus one with volleyball and badminton court.
Faculty quarters are located within the college campus.
Hostel Facility
The College has two hostels namely “Satish Samanta Boys’ Hostel” and “Saheed Matangini Hazra Girls’ Hostel”. The hostels have accommodation for 100 students each.
Scholarship Facility
Students of the College enjoy several types of incentives and scholarships from both government and non-government sources.
