Sandur Polytechnic was established in 1988 and is managed by Shivapur Shikshana Samiti, Sandur which was founded in 1965 by Late Dr. M.Y.Ghorpade, former Minister for Rural Development & Panchayat Raj, Govt. of Karnataka to cater to educational needs of Sandur and the neighbouring areas. The Polytechnic is supported by the Sandur Manganese & Iron Ores Ltd, (SMIORE), Sandur.Sandur polytechnic is recognized by the Govt. of Karnataka and All India Council for Technical Education, New Delhi and administrated by a Governing Council comprising representatives of Shivapur Shikshana Samiti, Department of Technical Education, AICTE and Industries/educationists/technologists in the region.
Library: There is a very well established spacious library with a repository of 21,889 books including Encyclopedia and handbooks, 25 Technical Journals and 33 magazines and good furniture. Besides there is a separate book bank containing 2513 books for SC/ST students. To ensure that students enjoy good access to books, library functions for 12 hours a day on all working days during the academic session and the board examinations.Open book system is followed to enable free reading without inhibition. In addition, three books are issued to a student against borrower’s card for a week, after which he/she can exchange them for another set.The liberal collection of good books both academic and non-academic provides ample opportunity and stimulus for students to gain adequate knowledge of his/her discipline along with the good general knowledge.
Hostel Facility
Hostel Facilities Available: The polytechnic is quasi-residential with separate Boys and Girls Hostels with current capacities of 240 boys and 60 girls respectively. The Hostels have spacious rooms to ensure comfortable stay and enjoy DG power connection for uninterrupted power supply and also hot water facility. There is a vegetarian mess run on dividing system.There are two wardens for the boys hostel and one lady warden for the girls hostel to serve as local guardians for the hostelites.
