A school was started on the 15th of June 1876, By Gurikar Marimallappa at his own residence in Mysore City. As the school grew from strength to strength, there arose the necessity for a bigger building. Then the present building, housing Marimallappa P.U. College, High School and Higher Primary School, was constructed. When there was a shortage of money for completing it, Smt. Mallamma, wife of Sri Gurikar Marimallappa, sold all her jewellery so that the construction of the building continued. Thus, this imposing building was completed, with the supreme sacrifice and service of the noble lady. Such yeomen service prompted the Marimallappa Educational Trust to start a Women's First Grade College in the name of Smt. Mallamma. In this way, Mallamma Marimallappa Women's Arts and Commerce College came into existence in 1982. .
