Lokanayak Omeo Kumar Das College, popularly known as LOKD College is a premier institute of higher learning in Dhekiajuli, Dist. Sonitpur, Assam. It was established in 15th July, 1970 with the unwavering endeavour of some leading citizens and the public of greater Dhekiajuli. During its inception it was named as "Dhekiajuli College" but later on in the year 1975 it was renamed as "Lokanayak Omeo Kumar Das College" after late Omeo Kumad Das, an eminent social worker, leading Gandhian leader and the first Education Minister of Assam in Independent India.With a small batch of 116 students in 1970 the college has traveled a long way and at present it imparts education to more than 3500 students with three faculties: Arts, Science and Commerce. The college is affiliated to Gauhati University which is an institute of higher repute in the country. Having contributed significantly to the academic and cultural life of Dhekiajuli the college has not only withstood the test of time but has also carved a niche for itself in the sphere of higher education in Assam.The college is situated at the gateway of Dhekiajuli by the roadside of NH 15 in its own plot of land which covers an area of about 16 acres. The serene and eco-friendly campus is enhanced by a verdant Botanical garden where the students can gain first-hand knowledge of different plants. A fishery located inside the college adds to the beauty of its picturesque ambiance.
Library: The library occupies a very important place in any institution. With its books suited to the interests and aptitude of students of different age group, with its magazines, periodicals, news papers and with its calm and tranquil atmosphere it has a special call to the students who go there and quench their thirst for reading the material which cannot be provided to them in the class room. Here they find an environment which is conductive to the building up of habit of self learning. The library is the center of the intellectual and social activities of an academic Institution.
