School of Health Sciences, University of Calicut is established in 2000 with the aim of providing quality education and training in the various disciplines of Health Sciences. It is one of the pioneer educational institutions in Kerala which has recognized the ever expanding scope of Para-medical sciences. The Institution is developed without state subsidy as a fully self-financing centre directly owned by University of Calicut for advanced learning. Hence the finance for the infrastructure and expenses for the conduct of courses are to be met from the fees, service charges and deposits collected from the students.
So far it has created more than 1000 post graduates with the update knowledge in the field of Paramedical Sciences and Food Science & Technology. Majority of them are working in various nationally and internationally reputed Hospitals, Food industries and allied fields and has won good reputation for the institution. The department offers maximum infrastructural and academic facilities, within the limits of a self financing institution, to the student community and is all set to be the premier institute in Kerala. With the advent of other paramedical institutions and a separate Health University in the State, the courses offered by the department has been restructured to excel and the faculty, administrative and supporting staff of the department work with such an ultimate goal.
The institution is located in the Calicut University Campus, Thenhipalam, Malappuram district. Currently the School offers three PG programmes under Faculty of Medicine and one PG Programme in Food Science and Technology under Faculty of Science.
