KVA DAV College for Women, Karnal is a premier institution of Haryana with the distinction of being the first women's College in the State. Inspired by Swami Dayanand Saraswati's vision of the potential in women and the need to educate and empower them this College was established in 1958 (by a group of Arya Samajis led by Lal Makhan Lal ji, Dr Ganesh Das ji and Principal Mela Ram Ji Barq) with only hundred students, 4 lecturers and 4 members of non-teaching. Now it has strength of about 2000 students, 60 lecturers and 35 members of non- teaching staff. After 28 years of its inception, the management of the College was handed over to DAV College Managing Committee, New Delhi which is the biggest, non government educational society in India running about 700 institutes across all parts of India and abroad. The name of Kumari Vidyavati Anand was prefixed in 1997 to this institute in honour of her selfless and magnanimous service in the field of education. Over the years, the College has grown into a renowned and acknowledged institute of the area, serving the cause of value based higher education. It has been declared a "Model College" and "Pace setting Women's College" by National Institute of Education, Planning and Administration in 1992.
