Madras Veterinary College

The Madras Veterinary College (MVC), the first of the four constituent veterinary colleges of TANUVAS, was started as an equine treatment school with five students in a temporary structure at Saidapet, Chennai in 1903. It is one of the oldest veterinary schools in the country.The college is located at Vepery near Chennai Central in nearly 6 ha. of land. The main administrative block is a heritage building built on the Indo- Saracenic architecture, that currently houses the Dean's office and the education cell. Besides, there are nine blocks of buildings, housing various departments with excellent facilities for education, research and extension.

Library: The MVC Library, one of the biggest of its kind in the country, caters to the knowledge building of the students, research scholars, faculty and scientists with a rich information resource base of about 40,000 books, 500 e-books, 100 foreign journals, 65 national journals, 25,000 back volumes and 5 online databases. It also has access to about 2,800 online journals through the 'Consor tium for e-Resources in Agriculture' (CeRA).
Student day Centre: A building complex that houses ten modern lecture halls and two seminar halls with audiovisual facilities is available. Lecture halls are also available in animal husbandry block and a modern conference hall is available in the clinical block.
Internet Kiosk: A server station located at Madras Veterinary College campus, with five servers, caters to the internet and intranet services of the constituent colleges and the University head quarters. There is a dedicated 1GB line internet connection. A firewall installed at Server Station secures the computer network of TANUVAS. An internet kiosk with provision for 20 students people to conveniently browse is available.
Hospital: The hospital attached to the college for treating small ruminants, large ruminants and companion animals possess excellent diagnostic and surgical facilities. Apart from outpatient units, there is a 24 hours casualty, inpatient unit and referral clinic which houses advanced equipments like endoscope, ophthalmoscope, arthroscope, dialyser, Electro Cardio Graph, Electro Encephalo Graph etc.
 
 Hostel Facility
The students' hostel is located near the college and has nine blocks with a capacity to accommodate 750 students. It has separate hostels and messes for boys and girls. Facilities like moder nized kitchen, reading room, indoor stadium, solar water heater and RO water are provided for the inmates.
