The Salem polytechnic college is a premier institution carving its name as a centre of institution both in academic and extra curricular activities. It was inaugurated by the then Chief Minister of Tamil nadu Bharat Ratna Dr. M. G. Ramachandran, in the year 1984 and is being managed by Sengunthar Educational Trust. Strongly believed to "Impact sound technical education irrespective of caste, creed or colour". The members of the trust are eminent, industrial wizards and Samaritans who have been contributing their mite for the noble cause of technical education, and a vision to provide world class facilities in professional education.

Our vast playgrounds always attract the sportive students to take part in the various sports. Kabbadi, Hockey, Ball Badminton, Volley Ball, Cricket, Basket Ball, Shuttle, Foot Ball, Table Tennis, Chess and Carom are just a few of the various tournaments conducted and trained by us. Our Athletes have brought laurels to us, both at District and State level competitions.
Library : A modernized full fledged Library with more than 20,000 Technical Books, 22 Magazines, 29 National journals, 4 Internal Journals, 11 Online E-Journals, Several Tamil and English dailies helps to update the knowledge of the students. The library is housed in a separate room in the main building. Library is kept open on all working days and even during vacations.
Counselling and Guidance Cell - In this cell, we help students to help themselves in all the areas of their life. We make the students realize the answer for their unanswered questions and problems of their age. Monthly twice the counseling will be conducted by the students in charge of the department

Hostel Facility
Our polytechnic college has a full fledged boy's hostel within the campus and accommodates nearly 201 students in 67 spacious rooms. Hostel mess provides hygienic vegetarian food with 24 hours drinking water facility, separate library is also provided in the hostel. The Hostels for Boys of the Institute are available in separate campuses. The rooms are furnished with cots.

Scholarship Facility
Our students will get the below scholarship to welfare their future.
National scholarship will be provided to the students.
Students belonging to Backward and most Backward Class are eligible for award of this scholarship.
Students belonging to Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe and whose parents or guardian's income do not exceed Rs. 50, 000 per annum are eligible for award of this scholarship.
Handicapped students will get the scholarship.
At present Military man children's will get the scholarship.
Alive Military man children's will get the scholarship.
Those who are expired in the service of Govt servant's children's will get the scholarship.
High marks students will get the scholarship.
At present working as teachers children will get the scholarship.
Tamilnadu Tholillalar Maanadu Sangam scholarship.
Apart from these scheme other students wants to get scholarship means they must have 90 percent of attendance
