The Centre for Studies in Geography was established in 2008 and a 2 year M.A./M.Sc. programme in Geography was started. It was a long standing need of the students, researchers and the society at large of the region. In the present context of Geographical studies, the Centre for Studies in Geography, Dibrugarh University introduced the programme in such a way, so that the students get hands - on training through different field oriented programs in GIS and Remote Sensing, Fluvial Geomorphology, Digital Cartography besides the existing subjects like Regional Planning, Political Geography, Population Geography etc. Besides teaching and research, the Centre has a vision to look into socio-cultural aspects, resource economy and burning problems like floods, deforestation and environmental degradation at regional level.
