Government College of Engineering, Kannur is one of the premier institutes among the 9 Government Engineering Colleges in Kerala and was established in 1986. The college is functioning in a sprawling 68-acre scenic campus, having sound and self-sufficient infrastructure, at Mangattuparamba, near the National Highway, 15 k.m from the headquarters of Kannur district.
Sports Facilities:Gcek believes in poised personalities and that is why we have been provided with best sports facilities . This sector includes facilities and play grounds for sport events viz cricket, football, volleyball, basketball, badminton , table tennis and also indoor games like caroms and chess. Guys in here are fortunate as they have a multi functional gym. Main ground is also the venue for the track and field events of annual sports
Transport: The college provides bus facilities to students and staff. At present the college has three buses and they operate from Kannur and Payyannur to the college. The day-to-day administrative matters pertaining to the bus is generally seen by the bus secretary. There is a bus committee constituted by the principal to decide the matters related to the timings, routes, charges etc. Sri Sooraj P. Lecturer is the bus Bus secretary
Co-Operative stores:A students Co-operative Society, named the Government College of Engineering Students Co-operative Stores Ltd. (No. C1020), Kannur has been functioning in the college for supplying books, stationary and educational accessories to the students. Sri. K.V. Narayanan, Selection Grade Lecturer is the staff member in charge.
Canteen :The college canteen is run on a co-operative basis from 1995 onwards, with the active involvement of students and staff. Sri. Y.V.Sukumaran, Selection Grade Lecturer is the convener of the committee.
Library: The library has a main lending section consisting of over 23000 books and a reference section of another 2000 books covering, beside the core branch subjects, topics on management, computer, higher education and industry.
Hostel Facility
The college has four hostel blocks - two each for boys and girls, each with an intake of about 150 inmates. The Ladies' Hostel is opposite to the college campus and the Men's Hostel is at a walkable distance. The college bus is also available for hostel inmates. The hostel has a reputation of providing one of the best mess in Kerala, with minimum expenses. The hostel provides a homely atmosphere ideal for studies and recreation.
