The Madurai Diraviyam Thayumanavar Hindu College, Tirunelveli, founded in 1859 has been a feather added to the cap of Tirunelveli city. It functions in a total area of 83 acres. The college is located 8km. from Tirunelveli Junction railway station, 8km. from Tirunelveli Junction bus stand and 13km. from Tirunelveli new bus stand. It has been a centre of learning catering for the needs of young men and women of all creeds.
UNINTERRUPTED POWER SUPPLY:The college has uninterrupted power supply. It has two Generators with the capacity of 40 kva. for aided courses and 10 kva. for unaided courses.
TRANSPORT:The college has easy access to Roadways and Railways and the students have the benefit of concession at the rate of 50% of bus fare. The UG girl students who travel by train have full concession.
CANTEEN:The college canteen functions in a separate building with three halls. Since majority of the students are from outstations, quality food and snacks are available at an affordable price.
PURIFIED DRINKING WATER SUPPLY:There is an adequate and prompt supply of purified drinking water through R.O process in the different corridors, for the use of the faculty and the students.
RETIRING ROOMS:Retiring rooms are in a convenient location with maximum privacy for the girls. Four halls are provided for the women students to spend their leisure time. The rooms are facilitated with the basic needs of furniture and separate toilets. Purified drinking water is provided. There is a separate room for recreation with carom and chess boards.
LANGUAGE LAB: The laboratory is fully computerized with 41 individual headphones with microphone and this enables the students to practice pronunciation. Pronunciation software at the cost of Rs.1, 00,000 has been installed in all the computers in the laboratory.
COMPUTER SCIENCE LAB: The course was started in 1988. The computer lab is typical with all the necessary provisions required to run the course.
LIBRARY AND READING ROOM:Library is the index of this traditional and prestigious institution. It functions in a spacious and well equipped building. The library is facilitated with 13 computers and supporting accessories. The life of the individual is decided by what he reads. To promote the reading habit, the library is stacked with a voluminous number of 69128 books, 89 magazines, 5 daily newspapers, 48 journals, 159 theses and 1400 back volumes. It also has a fair collection of 159 CDS. The library is also facilitated with Auto Lib software and bar coding system for the easy access of books.
THE E-LIBRARY:All electronic resources subscribed by UCG-INFONET Digital Library consortium to College are accessible in all Department Libraries and General Library.
