A.K.Singh College is the first degree college established at Japla in the district of Palamau, Jharkhand, way back in 1984 in the name of Sri Awadhesh Kumar Singh (Ex-MLA and Ex-Minister in the united Bihar Govt.). It got affiliated to Ranchi University from 1984 to 2009. In the year 2009 when Nilamber Pitamber University, Medininagar separated from Ranchi University and came into existence, it got affiliated to NPU, Medininagar from 2009 till now. It was set up with an idea and vision to impart higher education (upto degree level) to the students of the locality without going out side Japla at a time when the concept of private education was not common in the minds of people.
