Puthimari College, a premier institution of higher education in Puthimari area was established on August5, 1981. Being situated on the bank of river Puthimari in Kamrup(R), the backward transportation and communication system hinders the college in its prosperity. This clearly shows that higher education was beyond the dream of the area. As good luck would have it, the emergence of the College by the Puthimari River comes forward to fulfill the long-felt thirst for higher education of the young generation. Presently, the academic activities of the institution widen beyond the territory of the district. It is now acknowledged as one of the pioneers of higher education in Assam. Meanwhile, the College has achieved "B" grade in NAAC Re-accreditation in 2012.
Library: The college has a well equipped and computerised central library. There are sufficient number of text and reference books. There are also a few current journals which are basically subject oriented, health and sports related. The library is provided with a reading room with seat capacity for a good number of students at a time. Students can also avail easy excess to daily news by using news paper stand of the library.
