The UGMIT, Rayagada was established in the year 1979 with a single branch of Leather Technology with an intake capacity of 15 students per Annum. In due course, with the introduction of World Bank project for Technician Education, Civil, Electrical, Mechanical and Electronics& Telecommunication Engineering braches have been started with an intake capqacity of 40 each. As on today a total of 546 students are available in the campus. The admissions to Leather Technolgy course has been kept in abeyance since 1991.
Library: The library has a valuable collection of about 9445 volumes of both text and reference books.About 20 numbers of Journal/Magazines are being subscribed.The E-Library cum Riding Room of UGMIT is well furnished,equipped with 20 No of Computer with internet connection.
Hostel Facility
Hostel Facilities Available: The institute has got three numbers of hostels for boys having capacity of 200 , 70 and 30 with in the campus.For girls a fifty seated ladies hostel is available and located in the UGMIT colony.
Placement Service Available: Regular training classes such as reasoning and aptitude are conducted for the students to prepare them for future written tests and interviews. Experts from industries are invited to provide seminar talks to motivate the students.The placement of the students is conducted by Central Placement Cell (CPC). Renowned establishment such as TATA steel, Essar Steel, CEAT tyres, LAVA international ltd., Suzuki Motors, Jindal, Ashok Layland etc take part in campus selection process.
